It was Cherise’s freshman year and Jacob’s senior year when the two first met in their Mobile, AL high school. “I always say that the big man on campus didn’t pay attention to the little freshman in the hallways,” Cherise shares. But their class difference didn’t stop them from getting acquainted.
They’d both relocated for college, separating the pair, but it was the lure of The Peach State that would bring them back together. “After college we ran into each other in Atlanta where we started our careers. Jake was teaching at an Atlanta Public School and I was an Administrator of a Skilled Nursing and Rehab facility in Lawrenceville,” Cherise recalls. They’d exchanged numbers and kept in contact for years so when Cherise ended a long-term relationship it was serendipitous, evolving their friendship into love.Jacob proposed at a romantic restaurant in Atlanta. He was obviously nervous as he pushed his food around, adding to Cherise’s suspicions. At the end of the meal he instructed her to play a song from her iPad. Reluctant to honor his request in such a beautiful restaurant, Cherise gave in. And while Luther Vandross sung through the speakers, their waiter approached with a red box on a silver platter and placed a pillow on the floor. Jacob then got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Vibrant shades of pink coated the reception area at the Mobile Convention Center. The couple had circled back to where it all began for their glamorous wedding. The breathtaking decor was nothing short of amazing; in fact it was Cherise’s first look at the space that she notes as being one of her best memories of the night. “The room brought me to tears immediately. It was amazing to see all of the pieces come together to an exceptional experience,” she shares. Fuschia lighting created a romantic ambiance that would set the tone for an elegant affair. Eminent crystal embossed candelabras accompanied by low exuberant floral arrangements adorned the reception tables. R&B Diva, Chrisette Michele, serenaded the couple with “A Couple of Forever’s” as they had their first dance on a custom white, round, monogrammed dance floor.
To open the dance floor to guests the bride and groom led their high school band for an animated tribute to their Alabama roots. His and her lounges were revealed to attendees where they enjoyed savory donuts and ice cream sundaes. As Cherise and Jacob bid farewell to their guests, fireworks lit up the sky. It was a perfect ending to a splendid event.
