Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover model, Ashley Graham graced last night's Oscar Red Carpet Pre-Show for E! She was there as a co-host with Kris Jenner and Giuliana Rancic. Besides just being excited for Ashley, she looks absolutely beautiful. She wore a floor-length red gown with the with cleavage that would make the gods stand up and notice. Ashley is wearing a custom dress from BAO TRANCHI. On the E! Pre-Show, Ashley does talk about the difficulty of finding a gown and she quotes,
"I’ve just been insanely busy I mean first of all trying to find a dress for the Oscars girls my size, these girls this size [referring to her chest], I mean it has been a whole job in itself. So I am happy tonight with my outfit."
In the plus size community, a lot of women look at Ashley and cast her on the privilege size of plus size. She is a size 16, the smaller side of plus size and has an hourglass shape. In Hollywood, Ashley has a body that is nearly impossible to shop for, especially in the formalwear department. I know it sounds crazy, but in the past, I've had women in entertainment email me about dresses, because it's so hard to find anything over a size 8.
I also saw a lot of negative comments surrounding Ashley's dress. They were along the lines of calling the dress trashy. It's so interesting how size plays a significant role in how a dress is viewed. Case in point, when Lupita Nyongo wore the baby blue Cinderella gown everyone gushed, myself included.
Probably not. It seems that breasts are only scary when they are over a C cup. The dress had an extremely deep plunge. A lot of actresses go for the deep plunge on the red carpet, but most of those women have small breasts. If you are going to wear a deep plunge, small breasts are the only acceptable ones to put into these types of dresses. Which poses the question, if Ashely were a size 2, would anyone even blinked an eyelash.
It's exciting to have Ashley in front of mainstream entertainment having people question how they view people over size 14, even if the conversation is less than favorable it gets people talking. Ashley is a model and yes, she have the "safe" plus size body type, but she different from the thin ladies that usually walk the runway.
