Calvin
Klein is facing online backlash over a new lingerie ad campaign targeting
plus-size women. The campaign's tagline is "Perfectly Fit." Everyone knows plus size starts at a size 12. Now the problem
is the "plus-size" model who is the face of the campaign is only a
size 10. Though New York Magazine reports that she is closer
to a size 8.
Dalbesio reportedly defended herself saying in an interview with Elle.com,"I'm a bigger girl ... I’m not the biggest girl on the market but I’m definitely bigger than all the girls [Calvin Klein] has ever worked with, so that is really intimidating."
Calvin Klein does not explicitly
label Dalbesio as a plus-size model in the campaign for its new "Perfectly
Fit" line. Calvin Klein’s spokesperson told The New York Times that "The new Calvin
Klein Underwear Perfectly Fit imagery features models Myla Dalbesio, Jourdan
Dunn, Amanda Wellsh, Ji Hye Park and the face of the brand, Lara Stone, in
several styles. The Perfectly Fit line was created to celebrate and cater
to the needs of different women, and these images are intended to communicate
that our new line is more inclusive and available in several silhouettes in an
extensive range of sizes."
