Written by JENNIFER OGOO OKOLO

In Nigeria, the contemporary changes in the fashion and beauty industry has indeed neglected the plus size woman. The trending reception that values the thin and slim figured woman has undoubtedly put the plus size woman at a derelict corner. Now the conventional wisdom is that a healthy body is usually one that is within a moderate weight. While not entirely disapproving this contention, it is important to note that there are women who continue to live as a plus size woman and enjoy every aspect of it.
When you look around, plus size women tend to hide from publicity. They rather prefer to spend their days indoors and are seen only on rare occasions. But this should
not be the case. As a plus size woman, it is important to embrace the beauty of who you are. At any size, you should always strive to create a positive self image. And this can be simply achieved by imbibing a few techniques. Wearing a smiley face all the time, using body language, and dressing trendy to fit your body type, will go a long way in obtaining the respect and recognition deserving of a person with a beautiful personality, regardless of weight.

Notwithstanding the fact that we continue to live in a society where appearance matters, it is important for the plus size woman to embrace her beauty and accent her physical features in addition to her personality features. Trendy clothes, in proper fit to your body type, will provide a great improvement in not only the way you feel but also in the way others perceive you.

In addition to creating an improved fashion appeal, plus size women can also improve their personal bodily image through simply body language changes. Focusing on stature, working to stand straight and tall, walking with intent and speaking clearly and confidently, are all measures the plus size women can pursue to improve bodily image.

Bringing into play an alluring body language and following fashion trends send a message of confidence and grace. Thus, those in our society who generally have thoughts of ill will toward plus size women will begin to create a different impression.

Though, this is not to say that plus size women need approval by society. They absolutely do not. With many fashion designers catering to the plus size women, women of all sizes to feel more confident in who they are without regard to the acceptance of society.
Be that woman.
Love your body.
Take care of that body.
Embrace those curves.
Strive to live your life on your terms and not on the terms of others. Work to reduce your need to constantly feel the need for approval by your peers or the society. You do not have to please everyone; only please yourself.
